All the guys from the mixology section use a jigger, what ever happened to freepour??? If freepouring is not accurate then how can you measure 2omls from a jigger?? Any suggestions??
i like this question!! I've been thinking about it myself and can't think of any reason other than ease. It's easier to use a jigger than it is to practise and become proficient at free pouring. Don't get me wrong, respect to mixo boys and the passion they have for drink creation, but guessing amounts in jiggers can't be as appropriately accurate if the exact balance is required for the drink... so surely free pouring is just as good.
Using a jigger does provide ease but mixology or proper cocktail bartending isn't really an exact science anyways. Can we really know how much liquid any fresh fruit will yield not to mention the sweetness or acidity of that fruit. Dilution of a drink will most likely change every time you make it so the only way to have a "uniform" drink every time the bartender needs to taste it. As far as true accuracy goes try this test, have someone free pour(obviously someone who knows what they're doing) and have someone use a jigger. Unless the person using the jigger takes their sweet-ass time to make sure they got a proper meniscus on the jigger chances are the free pour will be more accurate not to mention more efficient(if not maybe that person should probably stop free pouring). I love all you jigger-junkies anyways
